I am sure, when you were little you read the story of demons and monster or heard it from your parents with something like- ‘go to sleep or else monsters will come’ (well the line is different from place to place, but the meaning was the same), Even if you are all grown up, you surely said someone ‘go to hell’. But what if I say there’s really a ‘door to hell’ which is burning constantly almost for 46 years.
No…No…No… don’t say, what rubbish, I am not making it up… I am telling you the truth there is a burning crater on the hush wide plain Karakum desert of Turkmenistan, which is continuously burning for long period of 46 years (almost) and never near around the stopping even for once. With that, it becomes a jaw-dropping phenomenon that keeps defying all expectations. Now, what will you say it?
Locals give it a name of ‘the door to hell’ and when looking at it, you can understand why. It’s the giant sinkhole, formally known as the Darvaza gas crater, is an unbelievable 69 meters wide and 30 meters deep, oh! And don’t forget it’s constantly burning.
What history keeping about it:-
Most of assumed, in 1971, Soviet geologists initially came across to the site and believed that it was the huge chest of oil. And they started digging up, but shortly after they started, the crater collapsed and with that, the noxious gasses began emitting.
The Soviet geologist tries to minimize the risk and the dangers of gas spreading. And for that they set it alight along with the expectation that it the matter of the days when it would burn itself out. But despite their expectation, the calculations appear to be wrong, and the crater has constantly inflamed for the almost 46 years.
And just like that ‘the door to hell’ appear and giving a shiver feeling to visitors.
Tell you the truth I am also shivering just by looking at the picture of it (when I am saying that I mean I imagine myself standing beside the burning crater).
