When you do search about the Assyrian Empire in Erbil, you will find amazing history and the sights of marvelous art which always proves the bravery and strong imagination of Assyrian.
And fortunately, construction workers found a vaulted tomb by the chances of fortune. The vaulted tomb is dating back to the time of the Assyrian Empire in Erbil, the capital of Iraq Kurdistan. Furthermore, as a bonus from history, ten skeletons were also discovered at the site.
What was discovered inside the Tomb:-
Goran M. Amin, director of the survey department at the Directorate of Antiquities in Erbil Reports, Inside the tomb, archaeologists found three ceramic sarcophagi holding two skeletons. The Tomb was constructed with baked bricks. Moreover, eight other skeletons were also discovered on the ground around the tomb. Goran M. Amin is leading the team which is excavating the tomb. He added, the team also found more than 40 intact jars with various shape and sizes. The discoveries were made in the past few weeks and yet not have been published in a scholarly journal.
The tomb bring us back to the Neo-Assyrian period and around between the ninth and seventh centuries B.C. which is also the time when Assyrians controlled a magnificent empire stretched from the Persian Gulf to Egypt, During that time Assyrian Empire was at its peak
According to the Dishad Marf Zamua, a specialist in Assyrian archaeology, the Tombs which is similar to the one founded in Erbil have also been discovered in the capital cities that built by the Assyrians, like Nimrud. Furthermore, he said, these tombs had been built for the aristocrats (elite and rich people), during the Assyrian period and Sometimes the tombs have been opened many times when they wanted to bury the new dead members of the family.
On the basis of what Marf Zamua report- Erbil was known as Arbela and was an important city for the Assyrians, during the time of the Assyrian Empire.
And if you go any further deeper into the Assyrian history you will found more interesting fact about it, I am saying it because I am well interested in it (and having 10 Skeletons of Ancient Assyrian Empire is really great news, don’t you think like that too?).
