Underneath the cold and blue water of San Fruttuoso, there is a statue of the Jesus, which always gives a feeling of Jesus opening his arms wide for the peace and ready to take every burden of yours upon himself for you. This marvelous and divine statue knows as the Christ of the Abyss looking like stand on the gate of the Abyss to protect us.

Well, the statue didn’t appear there mysteriously, which means the statue origins is known. But the think makes it strange is its striking sight, which amazed every Diver who comes in the contact with this stunning Christ statue under the blue natural water.

And if we go back in the history of this divine statue, it says on the 22nd August of 1954, 15 meters deep under the sea the bronze statue was situated on the seabed of San Fruttuoso near the famous village of Portofino. And the first initiative was taken to place the Christ of the abyss from the legendary Italian diver Duilio Marcante. Duilio wanted to place the statue in the memory of his dead friend Dario Gonzatti, who died during a dive a few years earlier in the same spot.

The one who created this statue of Christ of the Abyss was sculptor Guido Galletti, the statue of Christ gives a message of peace through the opening and raising its arms upwards as a sign of invocation.

About the sculpture size, the statue is 2.5 meters high and its weight is 260 kgs.

Phew… just put the history aside now, but if you really wanna go and see the Christ of the Abyss with your own eyes then, you can find the plenty of diving centers in the village of San Fruttuoso, Italy.

Don’t worry, your visit sure will be turn out amazing, because on your way you can also see the remains of a British ship, which sank not far from that spot during the Crimean War.
