AHMEDABAD: Aditya Nath Yogi Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has a nearest Gujarat connection apart from his attachment with PM Narendra Modi. The former mahant of a math (ashram) of Nath sampradaya in Visnagar, Mahant Gulabnath Bapu, was born as a Muslim with the name Gul Mohammad Pathan, , considered a Hindu disciplinarian, was the ‘gurubhai’ of CM Aditya Nath Yogi .
Gulabnath Bapu was born in a Muslim family unit those maps out its family tree to Jhalod. The family, allied with farming and labor activities, first settled in Dehvasan village and afterward shifted to close Vadgam in Banaskantha district.
Mahant Avaidyanath, the guru of Aditya Nath, was also the guru of Gulabnath Bapu. Their relation was so strong that when Gulabnath, 86, breathed his last, AdityaNath came to Visnagar, Gujarat, to perform his final rituals on December 6, 2016, and he also agreed the new mahant of the math, Sankarnath. Gulabnath had received diksha at the age of 18 from Mahant Balaknath at Vadgam.
Bapu was the sixth generation in guru-shishya ancestry. His association with Mahant Avaidyanath of Gorakhpur math and guru of Aditya Nath Yogi was very mature due to the dynamics of Nath sampradaya. Bapu also considered Avaidyanath his guru so he well thought-out AdityaNath as his gurubhai.
Bapu was invited to Gorakhpur for each and every most important event. When he went there last year, Aditya Nath had him felicitated by PM Narendra Modi.
Aditya Nath visits the math at Visnagar at slightest 4-5 times yearly, any Gujarat visit by the yogi starts from Visnagar. Mahant Sankarnath has sky-scraping expectation about the UP CM.
He came across Mahant Balaknath at the early age of 18 years. Subsequently witnessing the mahant’s actions, young Gul got paying attention towards him and the faction, and become decisive to take diksha.
